Planning Commission Delays Endorsement on Flood Mitigation Measures
Members of the Planning Commission declined to endorse two recommendations to address increased flooding, opting for further discussion at a later date.
Commission member Chris Mabee described a proposed change requiring developers in low-lying areas to excavate dirt at a 1.25-1 ratio as "monumental" and noted that the commission had received insufficient upfront information.
- Utilizing land in the floodway for greenway trails and adding riprap to protect the trail, where no uses are currently allowed.
- Changing the current requirement of a one-foot base above the base flood elevation (BFE) for slab construction and two inches for stick-built construction to a single standard of two feet.
