- In February 2020, the Athens City Council declared a climate emergency and expressed intention to limit carbon emissions.
- A 2.1 megawatt solar array was established next to the Athens Community Center.
- The solar array powers 100% of the swimming pool, 50% of the wastewater treatment plant, and a large portion of the community center.
