Rochester is one of eight cities in Minnesota receiving free carbon monoxide alarms as part of a statewide awareness campaign.
The campaign is funded by federal funds secured by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and has been in the works for decades.

It was prompted by a tragic experience in 1996, when Cheryl Burt's two youngest boys, Nicholas and Zachary, died in their sleep due to carbon monoxide exposure.
Since then, Burt has been advocating for CO alarms.
