Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Compliance in Hawkesbury Homes

Almost 40% of Hawkesbury homes inspected do not have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

According to the Hawkesbury Fire Department, during Residential Fire Prevention Visits in 2025, firefighters found that 39% of homes were not compliant with the Ontario Fire Code, mostly due to missing or defective smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms.

Working smoke and CO alarms are not just required by law—they are essential to keeping you and your family safe.

Residents are reminded not to remove their smoke alarm and to use the hush button if it accidentally goes off.

Author's summary: Many Hawkesbury homes lack working smoke alarms.
