No good journalist is liked by everyone because they tell the truth.
These words, spoken by Stephen A. Smith twenty years ago, during WSSU Homecoming, had a profound impact on the author, a student journalist at the time.
At that point, Stephen A. Smith was the author's aspiration, a proof that a student from Winston-Salem State could rise to ESPN and sit across from legends, confident, informed and unapologetic.
However, what he has allowed himself to become, or perhaps what he has chosen to embrace, is heartbreaking and disappointing.
