Tot Had to Have Part of Skull Removed After Suffering Blunt Force Trauma

Two people, Amy Cave and Craig Neill, have denied causing serious brain injuries to a Darlington toddler who suffered blunt force trauma to her head.

The youngster collapsed and was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery, during which part of her skull was removed. Teesside Crown Court heard that 20-year-old Cave was at the Darlington property when paramedics arrived to treat the seriously injured child.

Rupert Doswell KC, prosecuting, said Cave took a photograph of the medics treating the toddler before posting it onto Snapchat during the incident on May 26, this year.

Cave was arrested and charged with allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm. Her co-accused, Neill, told police he was not present when the injuries were inflicted on the child.

Author's summary: Two people deny causing brain injuries to a toddler.
