GOP leaders in Kansas are shutting down the state's Young Republicans chapter after leaked chats revealed racist and antisemitic messages.
The messages, exchanged via Telegram, included derogatory terms for Black people and discussions about harming political opponents.
They referred to Black people as monkeys and "the watermelon people" and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies and driving them to suicide and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.
Two Kansas Young Republican leaders, Chair Alex Dwyer and Vice Chair Will Hendrix, were named in the report by Politico.
The decision to shut down the chapter comes after the leaked chats sparked concern among Young Republican groups nationwide.
