The High Council of State (HCS) has urged the Attorney General to launch an immediate investigation into unregistered banknotes linked to the Benghazi issuance authority.
The HCS expressed deep concern over the Central Bank of Libya's (CBL) revelation that 6.5 billion dinars in 20-dinar notes were issued without authorization or registration.
The unregistered currency constitutes a serious breach of Libya’s financial and banking laws, undermines confidence in the national currency, and raises the risk of inflation and money-laundering.
The HCS referenced the CBL’s earlier finding of discrepancies involving 3 billion dinars.
