Researchers Identify 4 Antiviral Drug Candidates for COVID-19

A team of researchers has screened over 250,000 drugs and natural compounds to find the ones that most effectively stop viral replication.

Currently, there are only three antivirals authorized by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating COVID-19, and if the SARS-CoV-2 virus develops resistance to any of them, treatment options will be severely limited.

Already, the effectiveness of one of the drugs is in question, and another’s efficacy hasn’t yet been pinned down.

To address this issue, researchers conducted a comprehensive search, identifying four potential candidates for COVID-19 treatment.
