Kapaun Star Golfer Looks for Third Title in Three Years

The Kapaun Crusaders girls golf team is set to compete for their sixth consecutive state championship in Emporia next week.

“They want to keep it going,” said Kapaun head coach Marie Taylor. “I think they just have pride in what has been built and they just want to continue the legacy that we have.”

The team's success was further solidified with the addition of Ximena Sarinana, who won state in class 5A as a freshman. Coach Taylor recalled her first meeting with Sarinana, saying

“I introduced myself to her and I slyly asked ‘Hey, are you any good?’”
Sarinana's response was
“Yeah, I’m pretty good.”
Coach Taylor was impressed, stating
“Lo and behold man, she was everything if not more.”

Sarinana reflected on her freshman win, saying

“I wouldn’t say I surprised myself but it was definitely like, wow that really happened.”

Author's summary: Kapaun golfer seeks third title.
