No. 11 Cleveland improved their regular season streak to 60 wins, defeating No. 21 Southeast Raleigh. However, the game was marred by a medical emergency that stopped play for over 30 minutes.
Cleveland coach Scott Riley reported that player Krisjon Clark was in stable condition at the hospital after being hit by two defenders while attempting to catch a short pass. Clark left the game in an ambulance with 5:39 remaining in the third quarter.
"I was ready to walk away and finish this on Monday," Riley said. "They wanted to finish it tonight."
According to Riley, Clark was not breathing initially, and the medical team performed compressions. A defibrillator later detected a faint pulse, and Clark became more alert, even attempting to stand up. WRAL confirmed that Clark had gone into cardiac arrest.
Coach Riley allowed his team to decide whether to postpone the game, and they chose to continue playing.
