Top Universities in Canada 2026
According to a new report by Times Higher Education, the top universities in Canada have been ranked, along with their global standings.
The University of Toronto holds the top position, a spot it has maintained since at least 2011. McGill University and the University of British Columbia also hold strong positions in both national and global rankings.
- University of Toronto: ranked number one
- McGill University: rose to second place among Canadian universities
- University of British Columbia: held second place in the 2025 ranking, now third
Times Higher Education’s 2026 Canada University Rankings features 34 universities in total, with the top 10 maintaining the same ranks as the 2025 ranking, except for McGill and the University of British Columbia.
Rankings with “=” signal that a university is tied with one or more other institutions.
