Building an Ageing Agenda in Lebanon
Amel Association International, a member of the HelpAge global network, is prioritizing older people's needs and voices in community recovery across Lebanon.
Amel has launched a dedicated Ageing Unit, which combines practical care with policy influence, connecting home-based support, clinics, and social networks to create stronger, age-inclusive systems.
The initiative is crucial, given Lebanon's overlapping crises, including currency collapse, the aftermath of the Beirut port explosion, and the pandemic, which have strained essential services and pushed many into poverty.
Older women and men are among the most affected, often facing disability, chronic illness, and isolation without adequate support.
Amel’s approach shows how that can change.
By putting older people's needs at the centre of community recovery, Amel is working to build a more inclusive and supportive system for all.
