Catholic Charities are asking the community for help with donations to support families in need through their PREPARES program.
The PREPARES program provides mothers with essential supplies from the time a baby is in the womb up to the age of five, including diapers, baby clothes, toys, wipes, and other necessities. Additionally, the program offers resources such as parenting classes.
The program has served over 3,000 families in the last year, highlighting the need for more supplies. According to Sydnee Salceda Caravazos, program manager for the PREPARES program, nearly 18% of families in Washington State struggle, which is higher than the national average.
"We think about diaper insecurity as one of the chief issues for struggling parents. It takes about $1,300 a year to diaper a child. And that's one of the things that families living paycheck to paycheck struggle with," said Caravazos.
