A man was shot by police early Saturday morning after allegedly opening fire on officers during a pursuit that began with a traffic stop in Manchester, Conn.
The incident started around 1:42 a.m. when a Manchester police officer pulled over a vehicle near 335 Center St. The driver initially stopped, then fled, prompting officers to follow the vehicle toward the westbound entrance to Interstate 84.
According to authorities, police deployed stop sticks near West Middle Turnpike, slowing the vehicle, but the driver continued westbound on the highway. The suspect then fired at officers who were pursuing the vehicle, and a Manchester officer returned fire, striking both the vehicle and the suspect.
The vehicle stopped on the highway, where officers provided medical aid before the suspect was taken to a local trauma hospital for treatment. Authorities did not release the suspect's identity or condition.
Authorities said the suspect fired at officers during the pursuit.
