Some residents of South Lake Tahoe are advocating for the city to become a "bear sanctuary" to promote human accountability in bear break-ins.

Proposal for Non-Lethal Solutions
A local nonprofit, the Bear League, has submitted a formal proclamation to the city council in support of the idea. The proposal includes:
- Using non-lethal solutions when managing bears
- Potentially fining individuals who fail to secure trash or food
The city council has yet to consider the proposal.
