Vacherot Wins Shanghai Masters

Valentin Vacherot became Monaco's first ATP Tour singles champion by beating his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in Shanghai.

Vacherot, ranked 204 in the world, made history as the lowest-ranked player to win a Masters 1000 event. He defeated four-time Shanghai champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals and came from a set down for the sixth time in the tournament to win 4-6 6-3 6-3.

Rinderknech won the opening set 6-4, striking 12 winners and committing just two unforced errors. However, Vacherot broke his opponent in consecutive games from 3-3 in the second set to lead by a break in the third.

Valentin Vacherot is Monaco's first ATP Tour singles champion.
