Rail minister Lord Hendy visited Britain's newest station, after it opened to passengers. Beaulieu Park in north Chelmsford was built with £141 million from the Government's Housing Infrastructure Fund.
The three-platform station features 705 parking spaces, a public transport interchange, and over 500 cycle spaces. The first train to call was the 07.20 to London Liverpool Street, with up to four trains an hour during peaks.
Operator Greater Anglia was nationalised earlier this month.
