South Korean President Lee Jae Myung met with US President Donald Trump on October 29 in Gyeongju, South Korea.
President Lee requested that President Trump allow Seoul to obtain supplies of nuclear fuel for submarines and revise a decades-old nuclear energy agreement.
“If we could secure approval for nuclear fuel supply, we would be able – using our own technology – to build several conventionally armed submarines,”
President Lee stated, adding that these submarines could patrol and defend both the East and West Seas of the Korean Peninsula, reducing the operational burden on US forces.
