A new programme is being launched across County Councils to involve stakeholders and residents in making communities safer.
The Local Community Safety Partnerships will replace the defunct Joint Police Committees, engaging a broader range of people, including local residents, HSE, and Gardai.
The National Union of Journalists stated that limiting media access to these meetings will undermine public confidence.
However, the government advises that media access should be limited or not allowed, with the decision left to the committee's chair. Michael Loftus believes this restriction is intended to allow stakeholders to build a working relationship.
