Midvalley Clothing Drive to Support Veterans in Need
Two Midvalley organizations will collect new clothes for veterans throughout November, with donation boxes appearing in the community starting Saturday.
The Olyphant-based Kingsbury Lodge No. Barthold Chapter 216 Order of the Eastern Star will hold its second annual clothing drive for veterans. Donated items will go to St. Francis Commons' housing for homeless veterans at 504 Penn Ave. in Scranton, with plans to support other veterans organizations.
“I just think it’s something that needs to be done,” said John Lubeck, a Kingsbury Lodge member. “Nobody should be homeless, let alone our veterans.”
Lubeck, along with his wife Angel Lubeck, a member of the Grace E. Barthold Chapter 216 of the Order of the Eastern Star, helped organize the clothing drive. The couple began helping veterans while their son was deployed.
