Bangladesh Prosecutor Presses for Swift Trial of Detained Officers
The Shillong Times reports that Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-BD) chief prosecutor, Tajul Islam, has demanded the immediate court appearance of 15 serving army officers detained by the military.
These officers are accused of alleged crimes against humanity committed during the tenure of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Tajul Islam cited the Constitution, the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act of 1973, and the criminal procedure code, stating that no individual can be detained for over 24 hours without being produced before a court.
