London-Irish Artist Bernard Canavan's Story to Premiere at Cork Film Festival

A new documentary, Theocracy, about the life of London-Irish artist Bernard Canavan, will have its world premiere at the Cork International Film Festival this month.

Directed by Sé Merry Doyle, the documentary explores Canavan's life, including his tumultuous childhood. Canavan was taken from his biological parents and placed in an orphanage in Dublin, Saint Patrick's Guild, run by the Sisters of Charity, due to being born out of wedlock.

Sé Merry Doyle said: "I am very much looking forward to it, more so than most films because it was such a long journey, so hard to make because we had no funding except for the good people of London. The emigrants paid for the film."

The documentary's premiere is a culmination of a long and challenging production process, with Doyle expressing his anticipation and satisfaction with the final result.

Author's summary: Documentary on Bernard Canavan's life premieres in Cork.
