Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant shared his unusually honest views on marriage during a podcast appearance.
While determined to lead the Houston Rockets to an NBA title this season, Durant admitted his commitment to marriage is far less certain.
On Bobbi Althoff’s podcast Not This Again, Durant expressed skepticism about marriage based on its high divorce rates.
“I think divorce is actually more of a realistic… ‘cause I mean, the percentage is higher,” Durant said when told that 50% of marriages end in divorce. “That’s not good odds.”
Althoff pointed out Durant often defies the odds in basketball, but regarding marriage, Durant remained unconvinced.
“But still, that’s like banking on the rest, like, forever though…I don’t know if I want to take those odds,” he responded.
Durant clarified that his hesitation is less about the word "marriage" and more about the day-to-day relationship dynamics it involves.
“It’s just like the word ‘marriage’ that I get, but it’s more so like what that relationship is like,” Durant said. “Do I want to be with this somebody every day? Hang with the same person every day?”
Growing up, Durant never envisioned himself as a groom, despite attending numerous wedding ceremonies.
“I never really dreamt of having a wedding day,” he explained. “It was never really when I go to weddings. This is cool. But, it’s not like it needs to happen in my mind.”
