Hydro One selects AtkinsRéalis to expand key substation powering Toronto from Darlington SMRs

AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. (TSX: ATRL), a leading global engineering and nuclear services company, has been chosen by Hydro One Networks Inc., an Ontario-based utility with nearly 10,000 employees, for a multi-year Owner's Engineer contract. The project focuses on expanding the Bowmanville Switching Station, situated across from the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station.

This expansion will facilitate the connection of Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG) planned four Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) at the nearby Darlington New Nuclear Project, providing clean and reliable energy for southern Ontario, including Toronto.

“Delivering nation-building energy projects in Canada and around the world has been a hallmark of our work in the Power & Renewables sector for decades,” said Ian L. Edwards, President and Chief Executive Officer of AtkinsRéalis.
“AtkinsRéalis is ideally positioned to contribute to this critical infrastructure that will supply power from the Darlington New Nuclear Project to residents across southern Ontario.”
