To honor Remembrance Day and reflect on the sacrifices of veterans, several local cities have planned ceremonies. On November 11, most federal services and federally regulated businesses, such as banks and postal services, will be closed.
An event to commemorate Indigenous Veteran’s Day is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 7, at Battlefield House Museum and Park, 77 King Street.
“This service acknowledges and commemorates the contributions made by Indigenous veterans in service to Turtle Island,” the City of Hamilton said in a news release.
The ceremony at the Eagles Among Us Indigenous Monument will be followed by refreshments and snacks featuring Indigenous flavors. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs due to limited seating.
The city’s garrison parade will start at 10:15 a.m. on November 9, with a service at 10:45 a.m. Veterans, garrison units, and cadet corps will march from the John Foote V.C. National Memorial towards Gore Park on King Street East.
The service will take place at Veteran’s Place in Gore Park.
Local cities are holding meaningful Remembrance Day events, including Indigenous Veteran recognition and traditional parades, to honor those who served.
