Grocery prices in the Netherlands are rising faster than in neighboring countries, according to European inflation data. The data, cited by Financieele Dagblad (FD), shows that Dutch food prices were 3.7 percent higher in September than a year earlier.
This exceeds the European average of 3 percent, with Belgium seeing a 3.2 percent rise and Germany a 2.9 percent increase. The largest price hikes in the Netherlands were for beef, coffee, and chocolate, which rose by 34 percent, 22 percent, and 19 percent, respectively.
The Netherlands remains the Western European country with the steepest annual grocery price rise.
The issue has sparked political debate and public frustration, as Dutch shoppers continue to pay more than their counterparts in Belgium and Germany. Авторское резюме: Dutch grocery prices are rising faster than neighboring countries.
