On November 5, the Seattle Kraken hosted the San Jose Sharks for their first encounter of the season. The Sharks dominated the game, securing a convincing 6-1 victory over the Kraken.
Heading into the match, the Kraken had just won a home game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Meanwhile, San Jose came off a shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings in their previous home game.
Just one minute into the game, the Sharks opened the scoring. John Klingberg kept the puck in the Sharks' zone and passed to Tyler Toffoli, who then passed to Macklin Celebrini at center ice. Celebrini quickly shot and scored the first goal of the game.
With 3:30 remaining in the first period, the Kraken tied the score. Ryan Winterton advanced the puck through the neutral zone and took a shot that was initially blocked by goalie Yaroslav Askarov. Shane Wright recovered the rebound and passed to Ryan Lindgren at the blue line. Lindgren returned the puck to Winterton, who scored his first NHL goal by placing the puck in the corner of the net.
Two minutes later, Jeff Skinner intercepted the puck in the neutral zone and skated toward the net with Alexander Wennberg. Skinner passed to Wennberg, who then passed across to Ethan Cardwell. Cardwell’s shot went past Kraken goalie Joey Daccord, restoring San Jose’s lead.
“He took a quick shot to score the first goal of the game,” referring to Macklin Celebrini’s opening goal.
Ryan Winterton’s goal was described as, “His shot hit the corner of the net to score his first NHL goal.”
San Jose Sharks displayed strong offense and quick transitions to overpower the Kraken in this season opener.
