The Baltimore Orioles are signing free agent outfielder Leody Taveras to a one-year, $2 million contract, according to reports by Jon Heyman of the New York Post and Spanish broadcaster Mike Rodriguez.
The 27-year-old switch-hitting centerfielder played 58 games this season with Seattle and Texas, posting a .205 batting average with three home runs, 17 RBIs, and a .530 OPS. He also stole nine bases in 12 attempts.
In 2024, Taveras appeared in 151 games for the Texas Rangers, hitting .229 with 12 home runs, 44 RBIs, and a .641 OPS, while stealing 23 bases in 29 attempts.
After June 7th, Taveras did not play in the major leagues. The Seattle Mariners assigned him to Triple-A Tacoma, where he excelled with a .280 batting average, an .804 OPS, 11 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 23 steals in 24 attempts.
The Orioles are expected to clear a spot on their 40-man roster to accommodate Taveras.
