Australia's Matthew Short acknowledged that Varun Chakravarthy’s pace and unpredictable spin variations have posed a major challenge for batters as both teams prepare for subcontinental conditions ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup.
Varun has already taken four wickets from two innings in the ongoing T20I series, proving instrumental in India’s push for victory Down Under. His quick pace and sharp turn have forced Australian players to adapt their approach.
“What makes it harder is just how quick he bowls,” said Matthew Short on Wednesday, ahead of the fourth T20I in Carrara, Gold Coast.
Short explained that the team has studied extensive video footage of Varun’s bowling to better handle him when the World Cup begins in India and Sri Lanka. Still, he admitted that the conditions in Australia offer little spin compared to subcontinental pitches, making preparation a particular challenge.
“We’ve obviously watched a lot of footage… that’s probably going to be the other challenge heading to India or Sri Lanka,” Short noted.
The top-order batter also expressed excitement about facing India’s world-class bowling lineup while recognizing that upcoming World Cup conditions will demand new adjustments.
“There are always ways to improve,” he said, reflecting on the learning experience.
