Australia’s television advertising market plunged by up to 13 percent in October, signaling concerns about overall business confidence and consumer spending despite three recent interest rate cuts.
At its annual general meeting on Thursday, investors expressed frustration over several years without dividends and a declining share price. Seven West Media, which owns Network Seven and The West Australian newspaper, reported flat television revenue for the quarter ending September compared to the previous year.
However, the company experienced a sharp revenue decline in October, leading management to increase planned cost reductions from $35 million to $50 million.
Jeff Howard, CEO of Seven West Media, stated that the October drop in advertising revenue was a clear indicator of the uncertain market environment.
Author’s summary: The steep 13% fall in television ad spending in October pushed Seven West Media to boost its cost cuts, highlighting ongoing economic uncertainty despite monetary easing.
