The Toronto Blue Jays face a challenging offseason after falling short in Game 7 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite multiple opportunities, they narrowly missed the title by a single run. Now, the front office turns its focus to critical offseason decisions, with Bo Bichette’s free agency standing out as the main storyline.
Bichette, one of the Blue Jays' key players, did not secure a contract extension before the season began. As a result, he is expected to attract significant attention on the free-agent market from several teams seeking an elite infielder.
“Given Bichette’s age — he'll be 28 in March — look for him to secure a long contract. My guess is eight years, but he could get a ninth year if there’s enough interest,” Short wrote.
An analyst projected that Bichette could sign an eight-year deal worth around $224 million during free agency this winter. Fortunately, his late-season knee injury is not expected to need surgery and should not affect his value.
“The most likely scenario is that Bichette will eventually find his way back to the Blue Jays, which seems like the best fit for all parties after an emotional postseason run. Everyone should feel like they have a job to finish.”
While big-market teams needing infield help are expected to pursue him, many insiders believe Bichette’s best option remains with the Blue Jays, where both sides share unfinished business after their near-championship season.
After a dramatic World Series loss, the Blue Jays’ offseason centers on Bo Bichette’s future, with an eight-year, $224M deal likely defining their next chapter.
