On Saturday 27 June 2026 a ceremony unfolded in Halifax. The Canadian Army went into suspension its 5th Division as twilight fell over the base parade ground. Senior officers, veterans and staff assembled together. Colours were dipped. A plaque was presented to commemorate the unit’s past. A last bugle call rang as the ceremony concluded.
Officials said the change forms part of a restructuring of Canada’s land forces. After years of service the 5th Division will be dissolved as an independent unit.
