Avalon Airport is preparing for extensive upgrades as it gears up for the return of international Jetstar flights next year. The expansion aims to enhance passenger comfort, safety, and accessibility across the airport.
The airport has also recently completed a modernized freight facility to support growing cargo operations.
Avalon will soon introduce its first public bus connection to complement the existing SkyBus service. The new Route 18 bus will link the airport directly with Lara Station on the Geelong line, operating every day of the week.
“This infrastructure will set the foundation for even more flights in regional Victoria for years to come,” said Victoria’s Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes.
“The new bus route will deliver better public transport options for Avalon and ensure improved access for thousands of workers and passengers every day,” said Victoria’s Minister for Public Transport Gabrielle Williams.
The upgrade program is expected to create around 80 construction and operational jobs, while supporting increased tourism and economic activity for the surrounding region.
Jetstar’s new services to Bali are scheduled to begin in March 2026, marking a significant milestone for Melbourne’s second airport.
Author’s summary: Avalon Airport’s expansion will modernize its infrastructure, improve accessibility, and strengthen its role as a key regional hub ahead of global flight operations in 2026.
