Police Standoff in Downtown Boise Investigated as Medical Emergency
A traffic accident in downtown Boise that led to a police standoff is now being investigated as a possible medical emergency by Idaho State Police.
On Thursday, shortly after 4:30, dispatchers received multiple reports of a pickup truck driving erratically on eastbound I-84. The truck struck another car and a concrete barrier before merging onto the I-184 Connector heading into downtown Boise.
- The truck crashed in the intersection of Myrtle and 11th St.
- Boise Police and Idaho State Police troopers caught up with the driver.
- The driver did not respond to verbal commands to exit the vehicle.
Police released a drone and set up a perimeter around the vehicle. The driver continued to refuse to communicate with the police and to exit the vehicle for more than an hour.
