According to Phoebe Saintilan-Stocks, author of The Right Hand, eight chiefs of staff have offered a glimpse into their roles in supporting and challenging world leaders.
The (chief of staff) role has this professional intimacy, it's such a unique role and the biggest takeaway was that at the end of the day it does come back to friendship.
Saintilan-Stocks notes that trust and loyalty are core to the role, and once lost, it becomes impossible to continue working together.
