The British Medical Association (BMA) has slammed the Government's proposed 2.5% pay increase for doctors in 2026 as "indefensible".
The Department for Health and Social Care announced that it has planned for a 2.5% pay uplift without compromising on key health commitments.
The Government is offering "neglect dressed up as restraint"
However, with the current RPI inflation at 4.5%, the BMA argues that this proposal amounts to a real-terms pay cut for doctors. Newly qualified doctors would see a mere 47p hourly pay rise, from £18.62 to £19.09.
