Oakland Students Support Climate Bill

Dozens of students in Oakland walked out of class to support the "Make Polluters Pay Superfund Act", a state climate bill.

This bill includes SB 684 in the Senate and AB 1243 in the Assembly and would require top fossil fuel polluters to pay for the climate crisis.

"The Climate Superfund bill would require the top fossil fuel polluters, big oil, to pay their fair share for the climate crisis,"

said Isabel Penman, an organizer with Food and Water Watch. Similar bills have passed in New York and Vermont.

Students from almost 50 California high schools, including Berkeley High School, participated in the walkouts.

The bill aims to invest in climate resiliency programs, so taxpayers aren't the only ones paying for climate crisis measures.
