Struggle to Uphold the Law in Fiji

The Fiji Law Society President, Wylie Clarke, states that there is a constant struggle to uphold and respect the law in Fiji, which starts from the top. He expressed this view at the Fiji Law Society Convention 2025, held in partnership with the Pasefika Lawyers Collective at the Crowne Plaza, Nadi.

It starts at the top.

Clarke notes that public trust in social bodies and the State is often undermined by examples where leaders seem to disregard the rule of law, citing instances such as the suspension or dismissal of public officers, appointments, and decision-making processes.

According to Clarke, he has lost count of the number of times the importance of respecting and upholding the rule of law has been discussed.

Author's summary: Fiji struggles with upholding the law.
