Alexis Black, formerly known as Grant Freeman, recently appeared in a women’s locker room at a Los Angeles gym, stirring controversy due to his criminal past. Black was identified after singer Tish Hyman reported his presence inside the Beverly Center Gold's Gym women’s locker room.
Tish Hyman accused Black of exposing himself and harassing women, including herself, within the locker room. Her complaint led to Black being escorted out by police, but also resulted in her membership being revoked by the gym.
#goldsgym terminated my membership after the MAN was escorted out by police. Then had me escorted out by officers afterwards. I left but not before making sure everyone KNEW that they were allowing MEN in the locker room !!!!! — Tish Hyman (@listen2tish) November 3, 2025
According to court records reported by the New York Post, Alexis Black pleaded guilty in 2022 to violently assaulting his then-wife, Alexis Freeman, causing a compound fractured jaw that required surgery. The court documents state:
“Kyle Grant Freeman caused serious physical harm to the victim. The victim suffered a compound fractured mandible, which resulted in her needing surgery.”
Black’s criminal record also includes convictions for domestic violence, drug trafficking, and resisting arrest. After legally changing his name, he adopted his ex-wife’s first name, Alexis.
The incident raises concerns about safety and gender identity policies in women’s spaces, given Black’s violent history and presence in the locker room.
This case highlights significant conflicts between protecting vulnerable women and accommodating transgender individuals with violent criminal pasts in gender-segregated areas.
