Rutgers Health and University Hospital Break Ground on First Phase of Sweeping Newark Campus Redevelopment

Rutgers Health and University Hospital celebrated breaking ground on the first phase of a multiyear redevelopment plan to expand the campus and increase access to care, world-class clinical services, education and research.

For decades, University Hospital has delivered critical care to New Jersey families. Today’s groundbreaking represents years of community-centered planning, along with a renewed commitment to advancing health equity and improving health outcomes for the people of Newark.

Governor Phil Murphy stated,

When this project is complete, University Hospital will have the modern resources and facilities to better protect the health and future of both Newark and the surrounding region.

A ceremonial groundbreaking was held at 12th Avenue and Bergen Street in Newark, N.J.
